Buddhism isnt a religion requiring blind faith and worship. Rather, it is a system of practice in which the practitioner learns to understand both the subtle and apparent ways in which ones thoughts and actions cause stress and suffering in ones own life and the lives of others, and provides a progressive system of teachings, a path of practice in which one learns to eliminate and purify these root causes of stress and suffering, and cultivate new skillful habits of thought and action which result in the arousal of pure, wholesome, blameless states of body and mind and the highest form of happiness, an unconditioned happiness that is independent of the constantly changing elements of the material world, as happiness dependent on external conditions is, by nature, temporary and ultimately unsatisfactory.
