Bulacan on alert for Typhoon Ruby By: Vince CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado mobilized all rescue teams and local government units in the province as the Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) is set to make its third landfall over the northern part of Mindoro provinces and hit Bulacan at night of December 8, 2014. Alvarado, who is strictly supervising preparations and monitoring of the typhoon days before it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, already suspended the classes in all levels both private and public schools in Bulacan today and ordered Bulakenyos to stay at home and keep safe in anticipation of potentially life-threatening winds, storm surge and flash floods brought by the typhoon. The governor also said that rescue and emergency teams are all ready for any emergencies and also alerted the mayors particularly those in coastal areas like Obando, Paombong, Bulakan and Calumpit. “We will dispatch military teams to help the families that will be affected at the height of typhoon and we are in strict monitoring of dams in the province. We also have standby rescue teams and vehicles here at the Operation Center in case we need to deploy them for emergencies,” said Alvarado. Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO) Liz Mungcal said that they are continuously monitoring different typhoon hazards like flash floods, storm surge in coastal areas, rain induce landslides and dam releases. She said 45 families which are composed of 156 residents from Brgy. Salambao, Obando have been preemptively evacuated to Obando National High School due to the threat of flash floods brought by the typhoon. As of 8 o’ clock today, PDRRMO reported that the water level in Angat dam is 207.68 meters, with its spilling level of 212 meters, while the water level at Ipo dam is 99.58 meters with its spilling level of 101 meters. Moreover, the water level of Bustos Dam is 16.40 meters and has released 20 cubic meters per second, wherein spill gates have been opened since 9:00 am today.
