Businessman shot dead at Bhaoraguri; ABSU condemns KOKRAJHAR, October 26: A businessman of Bhaoraguri under Gossaigaon sub–division of Kokrajhar district– Debasish Saha (45) shot at by unknown miscreants on Friday evening at 6 pm. Saha, who received three bullets in his abdomen succumbed to his injuries while rushing to RN Basumatary Civil Hospital, Gossaigaon. Sources said unknown armed miscreants came in a Bolero and fired at him at Bhaoraguri market. The miscreants fled after committing the crime. Though no organization has claimed the responsibility, the militant group of Songbijit faction of the NDFB is suspected behind this act. The people of the locality expressed wonder as to how the armed miscreants could manage to escape from the area as Bhaoraguri is dominated by various communities, mainly by minority community and where there are number of temporary security barracks in many locations. The criminal activities often take place at Bhaoraguri. The Spokesman of the NDFB (S) BR Ferengga in a press statement said that the outfit was not involved in the killing of Debasish Saha and warned not to blame the NDFB without justifying the fact. The Kokrajhar district committee of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) expressed deep sorrow over the death of businessman Debasish Saha and strongly condemned the incident. The President of Kokrajhar district ABSU– Lawrence Islary demanded before the district administration that the culprits should be nabbed immediately and punished as per law. He said the situation was insecure for the common people as miscreants are taking advantage out of the weak law and order situation. He also demanded better security arrangement for the ordinary people in the district and warned the miscreants to refrain from doing unlawful activities which is disrupting the peace and tranquillity among the people in the district. Condemning the disturbing situation like killing, kidnapping and extortions in the district, the Kokrajhar district ABSU has decided to organize a three hours sit–in–demonstration at Pragati Bhavan on October 30 from 10 am to 1 pm. The district ABSU appealed to all student organizations and students of different schools and educational institutions to take part and raise united voice against the killing, kidnapping and extortions as well as illegal activities in the district. The President of Kokrajhar Merchant Association (KMA)– Bikash Basumatary also strongly condemned the killing of businessman Debasish Saha and demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the crime and punish. He demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family and also demanded strengthening law and order in the district to contain the rampant extortion and kidnapping in the district. On the other hand, the All BTC area Bengali Youth Students’ Federation imposed 24 hours BTC bandh on October 26 in protest against the killing of Debasish Saha. The bandh evoked response in the district.
