But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good - TopicsExpress

But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Jesus causes joy. Where there is Jesus, there is great joy. I got up early this morning, as I do most mornings, to spend just a few minutes alone. I often spend part of that time catching up on the news and browsing Facebook just to see what my friends are up to. In doing so this morning, one key element seems to be missing. Joy. Its Christmas Eve morning, and no one seems encouraged by that... Im not talking about the fleeting moments of happiness that we may have from time to time, but true, everlasting joy. Some people have it. I enjoy keeping up with them. Joy, like Jesus, is contagious. This morning, Im confronted with anger and animosity towards others. Theres bitterness and hatred. I get to read all about how much conservatives hate liberals and vice versa. I get to read about deep rifts between different factions of our society, and I cant help but ponder the absolute lack of joy. Joy is not divisive, but it unites a kindred spirit in all of us. In fact, without joy, there is divisiveness. However, with joy, there is good news for all the people, and that good news is the Messiah, the Lord. Jesus. Theres great freedom in joy. Jesus came so that we may be set free from the bondage of the things that divide and plague our societies. We may be free from the evil that angers and hardens our hearts. We may be free to experience true and everlasting joy. Freedom is not a symptom of a gracious government. Freedom is knowing that despite the world around you that you can experience the joy of Christ. Despite all the divisiveness and anger in the world, you can enjoy the joy of Christ. Despite your own shortcomings and the circumstances of your life, you can experience the joy that an Almighty Father delivered to us on that first Christmas Day. That, my friends, is good news, and today, today we celebrate the dawn of that great joy.
