By the time many of you read this, I will be on my way home. The last 3 weeks here in Uvalde Texas, have been excellent for Charlie-Mike Enterprises. 3 schools done - 66 officers trained. Im not sure, but that has to be some kind of record. I have to admit, this long stretch from home has been difficult at best. Anybody that knows me, knows that I dont deal well with boredom. To that end, I did get some writing done, got in most of my workouts and went for numerous walks to clear my head and help me to sleep. Sometimes the walks even helped. One sad thing happened during this trip. I got the news that a good friend and her young daughter were tragically killed in a car accident. The news hurt me deeply. I want to thank my good friend and fellow SWAT instructor, Sargeant Major Cecil Prime (US Army Ret.) for lending an ear. Cecil saw me the next morning and knew something was up. We had a 2 minute conversation (in the Warrior culture, thats a very long talk) but it was all I needed. Why? Because I knew a good-buddy had my six! Conversely, I did reach out to another person (the night I found out about my friends death). I even sent a text asking to talk. With only a texted perfunctory condolence - Ive heard absolutely nothing from that individual. Im assuming that friendship is (by their choice) concluded...... This is not a poor-me story. Heres my point: There are people (maybe friends, but maybe not) that in a moment of pain and sorrow, will reach out to you - especially during the holidays. Stop what your doing. Turn off the TV. Excuse yourself from company or family, and Take That Phone Call. Mans greatest sin are not the crimes we commit. Our greatest sin is our apathy toward our brothers pain. The phone call you take - the time you make, may save a life or ease a wounded spirit. Remember, someday it might be you reaching out. God Bless you all and Merry Christmas. Mike
