CASTING CALL! CASTING BREAKDOWN RUBY UNION: Student Film/ Non-Union FORMAT: Canon Rebel T2i POSTED: Monday, June 2nd 2014 CITIES FOR RESPONSE: Vancouver & area PRODUCTION COMPANY: VFS Production DIRECTOR: Stephen Tyler Fisher AUDITION LOCATION: 420 Homer, Vancouver BC SHOOTING LOCATION: Vancouver, BC SCRIPT AVAILABILITY: E-mail CONTACT INFO: Stephen Tyler Fisher (Phone) 604-803-9105 (E-mail) casting.ruby@gmail KEY DATES AUDITIONS: Sunday, June 8th 2014 CALL BACKS: Tuesday, June 10th 2014 SHOOTING STARTS: Monday, July 14th 2014 SHOOTING ENDS: Wednesday, July 16th 2014 STORYLINE The story revolves around two main characters, Ruby and Robert, who appear to be living two very different lives. Robert is a customer service hot-line drone at a big marketing company while Ruby is a stage performer at a local nightclub. Robert distains his life and his job, whereas Ruby seems to be walking on sunshine and simply just loves being Ruby. The plot of Ruby revolves around being in each of these characters shoes for a moment in time before the reveal that Ruby and Robert, are in fact, the same person. The story explores both happiness and apathy in one person who is having a gender-identity crisis. Ultimately, the moral in “Ruby” is one of staying true to yourself and learning that sometimes it’s best to leave certain aspects of your life that don’t belong behind you. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN Ruby (Lead): Ruby is a sassy, yet friendly show girl who works at THE GRAND NIGHTCLUB. She is a flamboyant person and doesn’t care if that rubs you the wrong way. Ruby believes in being your own self and always having a great time on stage. (Think: Catherine Zeta-Jones who plays Velma Kelly in Chicago, but less brassy) Her struggle is that she finds it hard to be all of those things outside of the walls of THE GRAND NIGHTCLUB in her own life as Robert. Robert (Lead): Robert is a rather unhappy and unenthused drone who works under an overbearing boss at a corporate company. None of his co-workers know exactly who he is, only that he would rather shoot himself in the face than come to work every day. His cubicle-neighbor Sophie is the only person at work who seems to take an interest in Robert’s well-being, which is heightened when he is fired from his job. Sophie (Supporting): Sophie is a soft-spoken and sweet girl who works in the same department with Robert at JEFFERSONS MARKETING. She understands that Robert is unhappy with his job, and quite frankly she doesn’t blame him. She has an innate curiosity and care for Roberts’s well-being and worries about him. (Think Jayma Mays who plays Emma Pillsbury in Glee). Mr. Jefferson (Supporting): Mr. Jefferson is an overbearing, typical hard-ass boss and CEO of JEFFERSONS MARKETING. He thinks Robert is completely inept, and jumps at the chance to fire him when the opportunity presents itself. (Think Paul Dooley, who plays Mr. Spritzer in Hairspray).
