CCPDannounces campaign to reduce speeding in residential neighborhoods: The Cañon City Police Department is reminding drivers to lower their speed in residential neighborhoods and has partnered with Howard Disposal, Twin Enviro Services and Community Watch groups to kick-off the “America’s Trash Talks-Keep Kids Alive” campaign at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cañon City Police Department, 161 Justice Center Rd. Speeding in neighborhoods is a primary concern reported by residents across the city. The campaign works by applying CHECK YOUR SPEED decals to trash bins and trash trucks, and if a resident prefers, they can order yard signs with the same logo from the website as well. This awareness effort has been proven effective in neighborhoods throughout Colorado and across the nation. Chief Paul Schultz is asking Cañon City residents and Community Watch groups to join him in making this initiative a success by attending the kick-off event. Beyond these friendly efforts to remind residents of the danger of speeding, the CCPD has made speeding violations in subdivisions, residential neighborhoods and school zones a priority. Chief Schultz has instructed officers to closely monitor residential streets for speeding violations and if necessary, to take the appropriate enforcement actions.
