CHRISTMAS IN SVG TO BE CELEBRATED EARLIER THAN USUAL THIS YEAR Tuesday September 17, 2013 (15:12 PM) Kingstown, St. Vincent – VN -- Monday September 16th, 2013, marked 100 days to the countdown of 100 years of nine morning’s celebration in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Speaking at a Press Conference Monday at the NIS Training Room, Chairman of the SVG Nine-Morning’s Committee, Michael Peters outlined that a number of Christmas activities will start from October 5th, 2013 in a number of communities in celebration of this milestone. The Committee has also launched a facebook page and a theme song in celebration of the event, which is unique to this country. HOW DID NINE-MORNINGS COME INTO BEING? Meanwhile, Mr. Peters indicated that though there are many historical theories as to exactly when nine-morning celebrations began, careful research has enabled the festival’s organizers to settle at the 1913 date. “Historians have argued long and hard as to its exact origin and its exact date” – Chairman of the SVG Nine-Mornings Committee Michael Peters said. "Through research, we have been careful enough to narrow it down to the 1919’s – somewhere between 1913 and 1919" – Peters added. Peters also indicated that “closer examination of the two theories; one which said it was a post-emancipation activity [and] the second one which says the growth of the Catholic Novena….. Records from the Church [Catholic Church] itself suggest that the date of 1913 was the most probable date” The festival is being celebrated under the theme “Celebrating 100 years of a Unique Vincentian Tradition”.
