CONSERVATIVE VIEW: COUNTER ARGUMENT AGAINST A TREATY ALLIANCE WITH VIETNAM The American Conservative calls it a terrible idea. But simply to argue that such alliance would mount to supporting a oppressive regime does not tell all of the story. But the introduction of advanced technology and modern warfare makes it less appealing for the US to seek an unnecessary treaty alliance with any nation at the current condition. For example, Turkeys prohibition of the U.S to use its airspace to launch airstrike against the ISIS in Syria has not slowed down the pace of the attack. For Hanois regime, it does not necessary needs an alliance treaty with the US to deal with China. What the regime needs most is providing a better domestic political environment so allowing other nations have a justifiable reason to provide Hanoi some of the most needed technology and weaponry to negotiate with China. The Vietnamese public gradually acknowledge that the sphere of the foreign policy, particularly so vs. China, is not just foreign anymore; it is the destiny and the future of a nation. A case in point is that the public has recently voiced some concern over the regimes backroom deal with China in the last century goo.gl/PfQDk3
