It will be replaced with a report from CPAC later. Please accept our apologies. 8.43am ET Good morning, this is Jim Newell in National Harbor, Maryland – a stone’s throw from the evil city of Washington, DC – where the nation’s most stalwart conservatives (and Donald Trump?) are gathering for the first day of the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). From today through Saturday, they will speak and debate about the 2014 midterms, the 2016 presidential race, President Obama’s destruction of society, the constitution, why Obama can’t be as manly as Vladimir Putin, and so forth and so on. We are going to cover it all, nonstop, like crazy people, so just sit back and watch the page reload with one wonderful excerpt after the next. Today’s schedule kicks off in brutally exhausting fashion with a speech from senator Ted Cruz. After that, everyone will question what strange set of circumstances led us to this point and call it a day … no? If only. Well also see speeches this morning from congressman Paul Ryan, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, war-loving former diplomat and extremely dark horse presidential prospect John Bolton, scandal-beset New Jersey governor Chris Christie, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal, Florida senator Marco Rubio, cocksure NRA chief Wayne LaPierre, and national shame Donald Trump. Various apocalyptic panels about the end of healthcare in America, the collapse of the dollar, and the haunting specter of legalized marijuana will also grace center stage at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. The Guardian promises to bring you all the speech “highlights” along with chilling overheard gossip and various stupid/funny pictures taken in the hallways of strange colonial mascots and preppies. It is America’s greatest, most patriotic conference. theguardian/world/2014/mar/06/cpac-2014-ted-cruz-chris-christie-live?guni=Network%20front:network-front%20main-3%20Main%20trailblock:Network%20front%20-%20main%20trailblock:Position9
