CRYPTIC Feeling the cryptic news about the lost plane in Southeast Asia and the ferry fire in Greece, I recalled that a sea disaster also happened at the time MH 370 was declared lost on March 8, 2014. So I googled and indeed I found out: On March 8, 2014 (Saturday): Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 loses contact with a Boeing 777-200ER passenger plane carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China. And on March 9, 2014 (Sunday): At least 42 migrants from the Horn of Africa drown when their boat overturns off the coast of Shabwah Governorate, Yemen. Then 9 months after, on December 28, 2014 (Sunday): Traveling though thunderstorms over the Java Sea, Flight 8501 loses contact with air traffic control after the plane departed from the Indonesian city ofSurabaya en route to Singapore with 162 people on board. And right after, on the same day: The Italian-owned MS Norman Atlantic catches fire on a ferry run from Greece to Italy 44 nautical miles northwest of Corfu, Greece with 222 vehicles, 411 passengers and 5 crew on board. Greek and Italian officials report at least one person is dead. Two merchant ships collide in rough seas off the Italian Adriatic coast leaving at least one person dead and two missing.
