Calgary and area: Fire ban IN EFFECT Page Content Posted: 5:15 p.m. October 4, 2013 Effective 4:30p.m. today a Level III Fire Ban was issued for Calgary and area. Fire risk over the past several weeks has been classified as moderate however, due to ongoing dry weather, fall grasses and foliage are quickly drying. This, in addition to little or no precipitation predicted for the next several days and winds predicted at 80 km tomorrow, has increased the risk thus warranting the current ban. The Calgary Fire Department has battled several grass fires today alone. The Fire Ban includes all open flames with the exception of internal household fireplaces and liquid fuel barbecues (propane and natural gas). The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all Calgarians to exercise extreme caution with all potential ignition sources. Please do not dispose of smoking material near grasslands or natural areas at anytime. The Fire Department will continually monitor the fire danger risk and may change its status at any time. Please visit this page for updates. Rocky View County has had a similar fire ban in place since October 1st. To report a fire, move to a safe location and call 9-1-1. For any non-emergency fire safety information, please call 311.
