Calm down, right-wingers and miscellaneous xenophobes; the government was not involved.Memorial Hermann is a privately-held, non-profit healthcare system, and as such is not a component, agent, or subsidiary of the state. She was allowed to say her piece, her private-sector (that is to say, NOT the government) employer did not want their organization (which preserves and bolsters life, health, and wellness) to be associated with that kind of democidal rhetoric, and she was terminated. Under Texas law (X), “at-will” employees can be terminated at any time for any reason. So yes, if your private employer does not like what you say or do outside of work in Texas, they have the power and discretion terminate your employment lawfully. The government (local, state, or federal) was uninvolved in their decision to terminate her employment. In the state in which they do business, they have the right to choose who they hire and fire, without the government getting between them and their employee, after all. As far as conversations about the Constitution would go about this story, she was hoping the state would suppress the protesters Right to Assemble that is given to them by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, namely by murdering them without a trial. This would violate their rights to due process outlined by the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, as no convictions (or even indictments) have been given to these persons; as well as their right against cruel and unusual punishment outlined in the Eighth Amendment, as well as violating the prohibition against levying exessive fines, seeing as one’s life is most certainly too high a price to pay. If any of you would like to live in a place where protestors have no rights, and are murdered by the state, I would suggest moving to Mega City One, or Ferguson. Her rights were not violated; she was calling for the denial of the rights of others. So, if anyones being un-American here, it would clearly be the woman who was calling for the state-sponsored slaughter of Americans, and those who agree with her sentiment. Post-script; I do not think those outraged by her termination would lose any sleep over it if she had been fired for saying something they didn’t agree with.
