Can I brag for a minute? A very talented student kept badgering me for art contests for her to enter. Finally I suggested she write and illustrate a short story and submit it to Stone Soup Magazine (very prestigious, nationally recognized publication). 95% of submissions are rejected outright. 5% get into the maybe file and only a small fraction of those are published. Her language arts teacher helped her proofread her story and I let her work on the illustrations in class but essentially she did it all on her own. My rationale was that Id read the magazine and looked at the illustrations and in my opinion, her work was comparable or better. Anyway, both her story and the illustrations will be published in the January 2015 issue. I couldnt be prouder. I cant wait to see her work in print! stonesoup/
