Can I have .75 cents please to buy me a cup of coffee? - This was my first experience from a homeless woman named Denise this morning at Starbucks. As she paced back and forth before asking, I could feel her contemplation in asking for money, not wanting to bother us, yet so wanting a coffee. I took her into Starbucks asked her if she too would like something to eat. She chose a cheese danish to go with her coffee. As we stood in line she said thank you, people are not very nice to me. Denise was older, haggard, dirty and didnt have a mouthful of teeth. Guess what? She is still a human being. Im often disgusted with how people treat people. I asked her if she would like something for later in the day and she looked at me with a twinkle in her eyes, a smile and said really? I said yes, get whatever you want. In reflection, I should have purchased her a gift card so she could frequent Starbucks many times - next time I will. As we were briefly speaking while in line, it was sad the lack of respect this woman was shown by others in that moment. I dont even want to know what that feels like in someones heart. It has been a week in observation of dictatorship, inhumanity, controlling another human being and taking freedom of choice away. Many of our leaders have chosen to remove heart and soul from their values, their personal integrity and have elected to follow the rules written by someone who felt that condemnation, damnation and punishment was acceptable. I have had many emotions this week outraged with the choices and justification of these leaders. It is not acceptable to take away freedom of choice and to punish another for standing in their truth. From .75 cents to $100K - disrespecting, controlling and dictating the life of another human being is not acceptable. When ALL choose to stand in their OWN truth, supporting the freedom which is preached, loving with the heart and living through the soul - perhaps the world will shift. Until then, the spiral continues. For me, I will continue to stand in my truth, walk my walk, talk my talk and live by example. The ones who I will impact appear, follow, see and begin to do - within themselves. As for Denise at Starbucks, today she was able to sit in Starbucks, enjoy her coffee and danish like a regular human being without being harassed, thrown out or disrespected. It was a beautiful feeling in my heart to observe her feeling a moment of joy. Until next time...
