Canard: -an unfounded rumor or story So many claims made by conservatives have been sold as common knowledge. Things like trickle down economics. Right wing canards about health care abound, the biggest one being that we have the best health care system in the world. America does not have the best health care in the world, unless you are fortunate enough to have enough money to afford the best. The best system in the world is useless if you cant access it, or if accessing it leaves you broke & destitute. Employer-based health insurance places crushing financial burdens on employers, while having a negative effect on real wages. Single-payer health care (AKA socialized medicine) works quite well in other nations. The right-wing lies about socialized medicine do not stand scrutiny. We should expand medicare to cover every single American. We should eliminate the payroll cap on wages, and apply a progressive tax on ALL income to pay for it. This will allow us to control the inflated (and arbitrarily wide range for similar care) of health delivery costs, while easing the burden on employers, both public and private. Insurance companies add no value to our health care system, they only add additional costs which are passed on to consumers. We should be the compassionate nation we claim to be.
