Casting Call PROJECT : “ Sunny Side Up “ Dir. Mike Melo D.P Nelson Reis Slate : Feb. 2015 Rate : $100.00 / day Status : Non-union / SAG Signatory Email submissions to : vipexcasting@gmail KEITH BAILEY – Male, 40s, any ethnicity. Overweight. Thinning hair. Funeral director. Dress shirt, tie, but slightly disheveled. In reality, a nice guy. Struggles with his own anxiety. Tries hard to fit in with his coworkers, including Gregory, but can’t seem to get it right. He playfully picks on Gregory, unknowingly causing him great distress. (1 scene) RHONDA FROST – Female, 60s, Caucasian. Conservative blouse/skirt, matching blazer, red-rimmed glasses sit on her nose. Another funeral director and coworker of Gregory. She’s sassy and always has an opinion about everything, although she’ll barely pull away from typing on her computer to fully acknowledge it. She’s some what of the enforcer in the office. She has an affinity for Gregory and tends to stick up for him even though she doesn’t quite understand him. (2 scenes) JOHN FERREIRA – Male, mid 20s – mid 30s, any ethnicity. He’s the “normal” coworker/funeral director in the office. Matter of fact, tells it how it is. Typically all about business. He doesn’t quite understand why Gregory works at the funeral home to begin with. Has a lack of patience for what he perceives to be incompetence. He doesn’t speak much, prefers to observe. He’s willing to lend Gregory a helping hand as long as it’s for the greater good of the job. (3 scenes) NATHAN HENDRICKS – Male, 70s, any ethnicity. Has a tall, physical presence. Well dressed, sweater & tie combo, an “old school, shake your hand and look you in the eye” type of guy. Funeral home owner and Gregory’s boss. He pulls for Gregory to succeed and evens sees a little of himself in him. He gives Gregory multiple chances to fit in with the others, but as pressure mounts, he has to make a firm decision. Always a pleasant demeanor through thick and thin. Respects and cares for all of his employees. (3 scenes + 1 V.O. scene) EUGENE KINDLE – Male, 40s, Caucasian. Somewhat close in appearance to Gregory. A cadaver that Gregory is tasked with applying makeup to. He comes to life in one of Gregory’s fantasies and converses with him as if they were once friends. It’s the first time Gregory’s true self and worries are vocalized. (2 scenes) ABIGAIL REECE – Female, 50s, any ethnicity. Cranky, self-entitled, always fighting to squeeze an extra dime out of anyone she does business with. Has an altercation with Gregory about a casket order she put in and nearly spins him into a panic attack. Has no shame. Will shed tears if it means giving her an extra inch. (1 scene) MARY CLANCY –Female, early 70s, any ethnicity. Conservative. Sweet. Emotional. Recently lost her mother. Deals with Gregory on setting up the funeral plans and buying a casket. She needs support and luckily her husband, Harold, is there by her side. Still, she doesn’t quite know how to process everything. She continuously teeters back and forth -- from sentimental and sensitive to crude and joking. Gregory has no idea how to “properly” deal with her humor, which continues to progressively be her defense mechanism. (2 scenes, 6 pages) HAROLD CLANCY – Male, early 70s, any ethnicity. Tall, strong presence. Deep comforting voice. He barely says anything but is Mary’s rock and the voice of reason. He’s there for support. (2 scenes) CASHIER – Female or Male, early-mid 20s, Caucasian. Bratty. Tired of job. Gregory shows up with a cart full of items and the cashier is not only “over it” but lets Gregory know about it. (1 scene) GREGORY’S MOM (V.O.) – Consistently interacts with Gregory over the phone. She’s soothing, nurturing and a tad overprotective. She thinks she’s helping Gregory, but it’s evident she’s probably coddling him a bit too much. They care and want the best for each other, they just don’t necessarily know how to communicate that to each other. (SUPPORTING) RICKY – Male, 30s, Caucasian. Athletic/Muscular. Somewhat exaggerated “bro-like” look. Moustache. Has a certain swagger about him that he is entirely unaware of. A warm-hearted guy who is oblivious to other people’s potential anxieties. He’s just living and enjoying the moment. Everything rolls off of his back. He likes Gregory, hangs out with Emma, and would want to hang out with Gregory, too. Gregory has other thoughts on the matter. (1 scene)
