Celebrating A MIRACLE this past weekend: today Stephanie, the girls and I went down to Georgia to visit my mother who is doing perfectly fine. This in spite of the fact that on Thursday night she was in an accident while going ~75 mph on I-285 in Atlanta during rush hour with a semi truck. The semi hit her rear bumper while it was changing lanes, spun her around and then hit her again while in the spin. Moms car was partially crushed on the drivers side as the car was literally going under the truck. Then she was pushed along until the truck finally stopped. My mom said if she rolled down her window she could have put her hand on the grill of the truck, and other cars only narrowly avoided hitting them while this was going on. But it gets better: my mom walked away with only minor bruising. Literally not a scratch was on her. Her glasses were broken, but astonishingly, no glass was broken on the car. The insurance companies talking to her have all said they have NEVER done a claim for an accident like this where the person involved lived through it. Today my mom told us, I cried out to my God as soon as she knew she was hit. My God! My God! she kept saying, and she knows she was answered and is profoundly grateful to still be alive and to be doing perfectly fine. I know there are tragic events that are sometimes inexplicable for us. I dont mean to diminish the pain people feel there, nor the personal journey they have to go through to find healing of all kinds as a result of their situation. Still, I do want to say that God should be praised for the good things He does-big and small-because He is living and active in this world. I for one am grateful that my mom is still around and that my kids get to know their grandma.
