Chandler School update- Many of you had questions recently on the traffic routes. We work closely with KISD, but its ultimately up to them how they want traffic to enter and exit their campuses. Traffic drop off and pick up should travel down Amanda, use the turn around that was implemented last year, and then turn right into the parking of the school. As you exit the campus, please adhere to the school signage and turn right only onto Chandler. This is the best route, and if all parents would adhere to it, we believe things will go much smoother. It just takes one car to muck it up for everybody. The turn around was implemented so we could pull cars off of Chandler. If we dont do this the cars back up onto Chandler causing a lot of issues to include cars passing in the middle of the road and buses being held up in line. Yes, some times there are no cars lined up on Amanda, and you could just turn left into the parking lot without delay, but it just takes a moment for the line to start and then its backed up onto Chandler. I, too, drive that way everyday to drop my child off, and there are no problems if we all use the turn around. Traffic will run as smoothly as possible if we just avoid left turns from Amanda onto the campus and use the turn around. We have thought about additional signage to prevent left turns from 7:30-8:30 a.m., but really too many people dont read and follow signage. We really dont want to sit down there and enforce the signs if we can just get voluntary compliance and cooperation from all. The turn around is on KISD property, and they are looking at a long term fix for the pot holes. The city is going to assist in a short term fix of the pot holes soon. Also, if you are traveling south on Chandler, you cant turn left into the parking spaces in front of Chandler Elementary. You can only park in those spaces if you are traveling north on Chandler. So basically, dont turn across traffic to turn into the space in front of the school. This is an illegal move and one that comes up each year. Weve tried everything from using traffic cones in the roadway, signage, and stationing Officers at the school, but we still see drivers doing this. Weve been asked to right tickets again, but we would certainly prefer voluntary compliance. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. There is probably not a school district our size that does not have a small wait at their campuses. Plus, we are unique in the fact we have four large campuses in an area not designed for that amount of traffic. We believe if we all work together and comply with the current signage and routes, we will avoid most issues. Most issues arise when someone is in a hurry, and they want to cut corners to save time. So we ask that everyone plan ahead. Its everybodys goal to get their precious cargo safely to and froe. Thanks,
