Charles Spurgeon built several almshouses for elderly people. On - TopicsExpress

Charles Spurgeon built several almshouses for elderly people. On a certain day, in one of these cottages he noticed hanging on a wall a slip of paper. When he asked the elderly woman why she hung it there, she said the man who had signed the piece of paper was a dear old man she had nursed in his last days. She wanted to keep it as a memento of him. Spurgeon asked her if he could take it down and borrow it. She agreed. Spurgeon promptly took this slip of paper (a check) to the bank where the bank owner stated that they had wondered who was the recipient of the deceased mans wealth. This woman who lay dying as a pauper, had hundreds of pounds to her credit and yet never accessed it. Thus can be with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is not sufficient to regard Gods promises in His Word merely as a token of His love toward us; we need to present them at the Bank of Heaven, and thus turn into the currency of spiritual experience the inheritance provided for us.
