Background Mangroves for the Future (MFF) is a partnership-based regional initiative whichpromotes investment in coastal ecosystem conservation for sustainable development. MFF focuses on the role that healthy, well-managed coastal ecosystems play inbuilding the resilience of ecosystem-dependent coastal communities in Bangladesh,Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Thailand andViet Nam. The initiative uses mangroves as a flagship ecosystem, but MFF is inclusiveof all types of coastal ecosystem, such as coral reefs, estuaries, lagoons, sandybeaches, sea grasses and wetlands. MFF is co-chaired by IUCN and UNDP, and isfunded by SIDA, NORAD and Danida. Learn more at mangrovesforthefuture.org Bangladesh became MFF Member Country in 2012. MFF is being implemented since 2013 under the MFF Bangladesh National Coordinating Body (NCB) headed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. MFF Bangladesh National Secretariat based in IUCN Bangladesh Country Office facilitates the NCB for overall MFF implementation in Bangladesh. Knowledge Management and Communications (KMC) It is one of the crosscutting areas of MFF works. With a view to complement and assist delivery of the Programme objectives MFF has set following four KMC objectives: 1. Establish MFF as a leader in sustainable coastal ecosystem practices, within its defined geographic and thematic priority areas; 2. Secure additional funding and investment in MFF activities; 3. Document, share, and promote results from MFF projects for transfer and replication; and 4. Build an active network of organizations and individuals to implement the MFF objectives. However, each knowledge management and communication activity is expected to have its own purpose, target audience/s and objective defined in line with these aims. MFF Bangladesh has a KMC strategy in line with the regional KMC strategy. Tasks of the Intern The overall task of the interns is to assist the MFF National Secretariat to update and implement the MFF KMC strategy. Specific responsibilities are to assist in: • Creating a database organizations and personnel important for MFF implementation in Bangladesh • Update the MFF Bangladesh KMC strategy • Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation of MFF projects and activities. • Writing web stories, press release and media advisory. • Arranging meetings, consultation and workshops and document the outcomes. • Undertake other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time. Minimum requirements 1. Completion of 4 years bachelor degree 2. Good command over English (written and verbal) 3. Impressive Inter Personal Skills and communications ability 4. Good Analytical Ability 5. A strong commitment to MFFs vision and mission 6. Understanding of the coastal ecosystem and community context of Bangladesh. 7. Ability to work full time basis in Dhaka and in the field sites if necessary. Specific requirements a) Creative writing ability b) Ability to capture stories of change c) Documentation and brand promotion skills d) Education in any of the following disciplines will be preferable: Mass-communications and Journalism, English, Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology or other social sciences. Remuneration The intern will be provided a monthly allowance of BDT 7,000 for the internship period. S/he will be responsible for other personal expenses including accommodation, food, health and insurance. Changing business practices to minimize impacts on coastal ecosystems and promote resilient natural and human communities 2. Increasing direct investment by private sector in integrated coastal management 3. Contributing to overall sustainability of MFF initiative Tasks of the Intern The overall task of the interns is to assist the MFF National Secretariat to strengthen private sector engagement in overall MFF implementation. Specific responsibilities are to assist in: • Creating a database of private sector organizations and personnel important to achieve the objectives for private sector engagement in the MFF Bangladesh context. • Draft a private sector engagement strategy for MFF Bangladesh • Arranging meetings, consultation and workshops and document the outcomes • Following up with focal points in target private sector organizations regarding involvement with MFF • Undertake other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
