Chess Kenya ,SGM meeting ends in disorder : The eagerly awaited SGM at the nyayo national stadium ended in disorder yesterday with no business being transacted. Signs of trouble could be seen early on as chess Kenya officials failed to table the list of members as required by the constitution for purposes of ascertaining if there was the necessary quorum. The meeting was poorly attended with only two elected chess Kenya officials present. An attempt by the members to strike out article 10.6 of the constitution generated a heated debate as most members felt that the rule was oppressive and that the National Junior team should be selected from from an open tournament and not the inter schools competition. Members were also opposed to CK attempt to take charge of Marketing of tournaments not organized by them insisting that CK should just set policy guidelines. When members proposed that the issues be put to vote, the chair (Secretary General Kaidanz Atwoli) refused upon sensing that he would not have his way. Disorder ensued as a result of which the meeting came to an abrupt end. No date was set for the AGM, the proposed amendments were not ratified, nor were Auditors appointed. The issue of the forthcoming Fide elections was also not discussed, though slated as part of the A.O.B. Members are now very apprehensive as the day for filing statutory returns approaches.
