Choices are for the Living Silence, Quiet on the Set, everyone take your places. Do you ever feel like you’re living in the middle of production? Do you feel like you’re waiting for your next line but the next line is the line of a mime. Seclusion, self preserved, self efficient, does any of these words sound all too familiar? We have become a society who isolates themselves to our technology. Everywhere I look I see men and women getting more intimate with their computers than with other human being. I walk into the grocery store and I see three out of five people either texting, talking on the phone or listening to their iPods. We are becoming a people who live almost robotically. For the working people, you get up hurriedly to get ready for your day maybe grab an energy bar on the way out the door, get in a car you cannot afford to go to a job you don’t even like to get paid a salary that is stretched beyond its capability and although you are surrounded by many people you are alone. For the other half of civilization, the stay at home moms, dads, retired folk, or just plain out of work folk, you also get up maybe not in such of a hurry but with intensity. You prepare breakfast; maybe even grab a bite yourself then off running in a hundred directions to do a thousand things, to answer fifty questions, to manipulate the system of communication by way of seclusion. You are surrounded by noise but yet your world is silent. You know there are people out there but you have become a part of the society of self. You have entered into the trade market, a world where we trade God for the next adrenalin high. Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot or cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. It is sad that many of us are in-name-only Christians we have approached our God with half a heart, and little enthusiasm, we have forsaken our first love and replaced Him (God) with the love of this world. Jeremiah 2:5-6a says, “What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves, they did not ask, “Where is the Lord, who brought us out of Egypt and led us through the barren wilderness… In Jeremiah, God was asking, “What have I done so wrong, what fault have you found in me that you would stray so far?” I thought you loved me? Oh sure, we say we love God, we certainly do lip service, we flap our words around aiming at the mind of God, but hit His heart. We confess we are believers, but what do we really believe? Do you really believe you can have a relationship with God by spending a measly hour to an hour and half on Sundays with Him? Has your life become your idol? Jeremiah 2:13 says, “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the springs of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” Why did we trade God for a broken cistern? We have left Him to do our own thing, to be our own person, to create our own world, which occasionally we let Him in for a moment then we dismiss Him back into His world while we remain in ours. Pitiful, we have traded a perfect God for a broken cistern. All God wants is for us to be in love with Him, but we are too busy being in love with our technology our privacy, our lives our wants, our needs our selfish desires and our useless motivators. We have committed two sins, we have forsaken God, and we have dug our own cisterns, which is bad in itself but the cisterns we have dug are broken and empty. I want to be sold out to Jesus. My heart’s desire is to love Him more, more than the television, more than money, more than my cell phone, more than my house, more than my car, more than my husband, more than my children, more….because God is more….You might be saying to yourself well I do love Him more and for some you it might be your truth but for the people I am writing to, ask yourself a question, who and what do I give more of my time to? What fault did your fathers find in God that they strayed so far away? What road were you on when you started following worthless idols? Choices are for the Living… Choose a life worth repeating. My Prayer: Oh Lord forgive me for not answering when you called for placing you on hold while I engaged in a conversation with this world. Forgive me for being so self- absorbed in my thoughts and my emotions that I let them direct my path. Oh Lord, insert a deep desire inside of my heart to cry out your name in the wilderness, to fall prostate before you and repent for finding fault with my Lord. Help me trade back this old cistern which was received broken and remained broken from that day on. Lord, give me the courage not to remain the same, to live boldly, out loud, and on purpose for you. To want You more than anything else in my life. Amen Michele Davenport
