Christine Lagarde, the top official of the International Monetary Fund, previewed next week’s IMF and World Bank annual meetings with an alliterative discussion about the global economy still fraught with challenges....“Our main job now is to help the global economy shift gears and overcome what has been so far a disappointing recovery: one that is brittle, uneven and beset by risks,” The IMF predicts a modest pickup in 2015 in the global economy, but that outlook for potential growth has been pared down form the original forecast. This reaffirms the sentiments that borrowing costs on a global scale will very likely remain low for an extended period of time. China will likely continue to drive global growth, as they’ve already been doing a lot of the “heavy lifting” since the crisis. Advanced economies like the U.S. and the U.K. should see the biggest rebound.
