Citi News can confirm that the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood has finally set up an eight member committee to investigate the sacked Deputy Communication Minister, Vicky Hammah’s leaked tape allegation that Nana Oye Lithur was used as conduit to influence the verdict of the election petition. This is in response to the petition filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie asking the Chief Justice to investigate the matter. Citi News sources at the Judicial Service disclosed that the eight member committee is headed by Justice Dr. Dartey Baah. It is yet unclear within what time limit the committee is to submit its report. The NPP General Secretary, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie confirmed receiving official correspondence from the office of the Chief Justice on the move taken to investigate the matter. “I received a letter from the CJ yesterday concerning our petition and we are very happy because it is a matter of great concern to all Ghanaians; we are particularly grateful to the Chief Justice for dealing with our petition within a short period.” He anticipated a positive result from the committee’s sittings. “We hope that the committee will look at it as a matter of urgency and conclude in a manner that they seem it ought to be and like I said we are very grateful to the Chief Justice for taken our matter serious.” Meanwhile, President of the Greater Accra Ghana Bar Association, Mr. Frank Davies has commended the Chief Justice for her quick action. Mr. Frank Davies who earlier impressed upon the Chief Justice not to treat the petition as one of the political gossips said “I think it is appropriate in the circumstances that the Honorable Lady Chief Justice has found it fit to respond to the petition and set up the committee so that the administration of justice will not be brought into disrepute.” He continued saying, “Like I said we are officers of the court, members of the Bar and the Bench and in any such circumstances it is better to push the issue beyond doubt that the name of the Judiciary for that matter the bench will not be scandalized; so it is pleasant news to hear and I am looking forward to see the committee start its work.”
