Classmates: Mark Louis Carr Born December 3, 1955 in Chicago Illinois, at Ravenswood Hospital, Mark passed away peacefully November 12, 2014 at his home in Rockford Illinois. He was 58 years young. Mark will be remembered as a kind and giving person, a person of sharp wit, and one who carried with him those rarest of qualities in finding humor and happiness with everything and everyone he came in touch with. Mark was selfless and generous and never hesitated to help a friend in need. Mark was a lifelong lover of dogs and you always found him with a canine companion at his side. Additionally, Mark was a devoted fan of both the Chicago Cubs, having been born by Wrigley Field, and also of the Chicago Bears. Mark grew up in Barrington Illinois, and graduated from Barrington High School in 1974. After suffering a near fatal motorcycle accident in his early twenties, Mark decided to move out west to Colorado. Mark fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and the wonderful lifestyle they afforded. He lived in Gunnison Colorado for several years where he attended Western State College, earning his Bachelors of Arts degree in Industrial Education and Technology in 1987. Skiing became Marks passion, and he became an an avid and expert skier while working for Crested Butte Mountain Resort. His passionate dream was someday to return to these Colorado Mountains for retirement, which was where his heart was. Life was a series of adventures. Mark was eventually called back to the Midwest and settled in Rockford Illinois. As a resident of Rockford, Mark worked at AT&T as a Customer Service Technician for over eighteen years, starting with the company in February 1996. While in Rockford, Marks other passion for classic cars and hot rods reignited, and his pride and joy was his meticulously restored 1967 Chevy Impala, on which he tinkered endlessly. Family has always been important to Mark, and Mark was also extremely devoted to his father. A moment in Marks life that he was especially proud of and cherished was when he escorted Norman, his father, a World War II veteran, on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit our Nations Capitol in August 2012. Mark is survived by his father; Norman R. Carr of Woodstock Illinois, brothers; Dana (Norene) Carr of Fox River Grove Illinois, Craig Carr of Moab Utah, and Scott (Sharon) Carr of Hot Springs Arkansas, sisters; Lynn (Jim) Zito of Pilot Point Texas, and Joy (Rick) Venuso of Fox River Grove Illinois, many nieces and nephews, his beloved dog Jenny, and a legacy of loving friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Julia (Judy) in 1992. A celebration of his life will be held from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Norge Ski Clubhouse at 100 Ski Hill Road, Fox River Grove Illinois. Memorial donations in Marks name may be made to: American Diabetes Association, Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue of Harvard Illinois, or an animal shelter of your choice.
