CEC General Manager Ed Short asked members to help keep electricity affordable and reliable by joining the grass roots effort on action.coop to urge the Environmental Protection Agency to keep an All of the Above approach to energy. “The EPA is deviating from the pledge to use an All of the Above strategy and has now embraced an All But One approach in an effort to eliminate coal from the power generation mix,” said Short. “The Department of Energy has publicly acknowledged that power plants who attempt to comply with new regulations through the use of unproven technologies like CCS (Carbon Capture and Sequestration) will see a drastic increase in the range of 70 to 80 percent for wholesale power generated with coal. We want a clean environment because we live here too, and that’s why PowerSouth has invested hundreds of millions in clean coal technology, but we also care about our members and the economy. We support a diverse energy production mix in an All of the Above approach,” he added.
