Coast Mountain Backcountry Report Episode 3 Escape Route DPS SKIS The CMBR team was up on the Duffey Lake Road, namely the Steep Creek environs on Saturday with Jonas Hoke, one of the avalanche forecasters for the Ministry of Transportation. The main theme here is that early season conditions persist at lower (sub 1800m) elevations. Be cautious of barely covered terrain features and open creeks. Above 1800m it is a different story with a snowpack that can support skiing quite well. Accessing the higher elevations is the challenge right now. Great skiing was found on all aspects above 1800 m. Barely covered avalanche debris from the last cycle was observed. The team found a surface hoar layer at the 10-15cm level that if loaded with more snow and wind, could present a problem in the coming days. As always, please check the local bulletins before planning your outings: Sea to Sky: avalanche.ca/forecasts/sea... Whistler Blackcomb whistlerblackcomb/the-... Thanks for tuning in, see you next week! Happy Holidays! CMBR Team. Disclaimer: These are the opinions of the observer and should only be used as part of an informed decision making process. Please use caution in the backcountry.
