College of Business Student Spotlight: Liam Benson A junior at the College of Business, Liam Benson, is already making a name for himself in the equine industry. Growing up, he spent summers working on his familys thoroughbred breeding and training center in Florida. He passed his trainers test just after his 18th birthday and is currently training seven horses in Monmouth Park in Oceanport, NJ. His first win as trainer came July 4, 2013, after only 5 starts. He is ranked #2,053 of 5,696 trainers with $42,157 in earnings in 2014 (Equibase). Academically, Liam is majoring in both Equine Business and Accounting, and minoring in Entrepreneurship. He is President of University of Louisville Riding & Racing Club. Additionally, Liam is President of Jockey Analytics, a UofL undergraduate entrepreneurship business plan team, with winnings of over $11,000 for second place Undergraduate Plan in the Idea State U Competition in April 2014. Of our equine program, Liam comments, “The Equine Industry Program at the College of Business has been a crucial part in my decision making regarding my career as a trainer. I have received a tremendous amount of support and advice from the faculty within the program.” His future certainly looks bright, and we wish Liam our best in his career.
