Colombo Dockyard Ltd, PLC (CDL) has built the biggest vessel in their 39 year history of shipbuilding. This vessel is a 400 passenger cum 250T vessel exclusively build for the Indian government. The launch takes place today at their premises in Colombo. This vessel was built for the Administration of Union of Lakshadweep and was built to meet all applicable IMO, SOLAS and Special Trade Passenger Ship rules of the Indian flag administration. The ship would be a ‘dual classed vessel’ and would be classified by both the Indian Register of Shipping and Lloyds Register of Shipping’, a company sources said. This contract to build the ship to international accepted industrial norms and standards was awarded to CDL by Union of territory of Lakshadweep administration Kavaratti India. This vessel meets all applicable IMO, SOLAS and Special Trade Passenger Ship Rules of the Indian Flag Administration and shall be dual classed by the Indian Register of Shipping and Lloyds Register of Shipping. According to the CDL sources the vessel designed by GL Nobel Denton of Norway and detailed design engineering provided by Neilsoft Ltd of India has connected together specialized in their respective fields to bring about the best solutions. CDL sources said that once the vessel is deployed it will help ease the movement of passenger traffic en rout from main land of Lakshadweep island, the sources said. CDL’s tactical collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd of Japan in 1993, has been a highly successful venture that has influenced Colombo Dockyard’s achievements over the years in ship building. Onomichi’s long and reputed history in the ship building and ship repair business and the introduction of efficient training and development programs has enhanced the professionalism, skills and technical expertise of the engineers and workers of Colombo Dockyard. - See more at:
