Coming To Middlesbrough Soon (hopefully...) Getting people into - TopicsExpress

Coming To Middlesbrough Soon (hopefully...) Getting people into work is my biggest challenge and my number one priority. Having more people working is great news for everyone: not least because it means they can provide for their families. Work also means that people pay tax and contribute to the economy. So today I was excited to visit an amazing organization: The Employability Trust. Id heard about their work before and was delighted to take up their offer of a tour of their premises. This not for profit businesses was set up by Bill Marley in Peterlee. This registered charity works out of a disused industrial factory by the A19 Bill wanted to do something real and effective about the lack of skills and work experience which was dragging down communities and businesses in East Durham. He had a vision for preparing people for work with real skills - in a real working environment. So within theTrust he operates real businesses which earn real money - all for the benefit of the people whore being trained and skilled. Today I saw people doing real jobs and learning real skills and saw real examples of people whod moved out of long term unemployment into jobs and a positive future. The success stories of this social venture are evident everywhere locally. Employers have benefited massively from this charitable enterprise. The very best thing about this project is that it costs the taxpayer zero! Not a penny is taken from government or agencies. Bill has done an incredible job with this project and I have to say I am jealous. I know that a similar venture could do wonders for Middlesbrough... So Bill and I are exploring how to do something in Middlesbrough in the coming months. Were aiming to get people into a real work environment and then into real jobs. I think we can do it! Here are some pics I took around the plant. The last one is the comments book they asked me to sign - you can see I was impressed. Thanks for reading this. Andy Preston
