Common Core should be its own discussion outside of other issues - TopicsExpress

Common Core should be its own discussion outside of other issues such as teachers unions, etc. I refer everyone to a video: [email protected] to learn the origins of CC and why it is so wrong on so many levels. I have followed several articles in the Tennessean about how wonderfully our schools are doing, but quite frankly, an improvement of two-tenths of one percent is nowhere near a number that can be considered statistically significant. To brag on these gains embarrasses all of us. Three percent is the cutoff for where any statistic is significant. Parents are basically responsible for their childrens education. They have the responsibility and the right to see that their children are properly educated. For the Federal Government to come in dangling $$$ over the states heads so they can dictate the use of a curriculum that doesnt even make sense is beyond comprehension. Helping friends children with Common Core homework is a nightmare, primarily because the textbooks do not appear to have been edited by literate people. Common Core math divorces common sense as early as addition and subtraction. The rhetoric that came with Race to the Top and now Common Core, sounded pretty good at first. How it is playing out in reality is an entirely different story. Lets not be so quick to toss the Tenth Amendment overboard.
