Community Development Coordinator National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Charlotte, NC The Community Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for the recruitment and engagement of volunteers in support of the Society’s mission. The Coordinator will also be responsible for community outreach in Charlotte and the surrounding area and South Carolina. The Coordinator will recruit, train and coordinate volunteers supporting mass market events in Western Carolina and South Carolina, general office volunteers and interns. T he Coordinator will also assist with volunteer recognition and engagement of leadership volunteers and will have responsibility for serving as a liaison to the Young Professionals Advisory Board. Responsibilities will also include managing communication to volunteers, creating email campaigns, and raising the profile of the organization by making presentations to school, community or civic groups. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing volunteers at mass market events, requiring some travel, and for tracking and reporting Chapter wide volunteer participation using a National database. 1. Volunteer Engagement (95% of time) § increase the number of Society volunteers, recognizing and recruiting talent (Managing Relationships, Being Open and Receptive) o Use Society’s Altair Volunteer Module to track volunteer assignments o Run Business Objects reports on volunteer engagement o Work with Chapter staff to identify needs and schedule volunteers to assist with projects o Utilize VolunteerMatch and other recruiting tools to engage new volunteers o Recruit volunteers for mission related activities, including MS Awareness Week o Recruit volunteers for Talk MS Speaker’s Bureau o Assist in soliciting speaking engagements for awareness presentations o Conduct outreach to community groups, businesses, schools and civic organizations to raise awareness and recruit volunteers o Develop collaborative partnerships with community groups, business, and civic organizatoins § Engage volunteers, effectively communicating and facilitating meaningful opportunities across all functions. (Communication) o Manage communication to volunteers using Convio email system o Match volunteers skills and interests with volunteer opportunity o Conduct orientations for new volunteers o Maintain a listing of volunteer needs o Recruit and engage leadership volunteers o Recruit advocates o Manage Young Professionals Advisory Board and cultivate young professionals in Charlotte and in Western NC and South Carolina o Support Service Project Leadership Teams by recruiting volunteers, conducting background checks, training volunteers and coordinating projects § Partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. (Getting Work Done through Others, Getting Organized, Managing Work Processes, and Overcoming Obstacles) o Recruit volunteers for mass market events in Western NC and South Carolina, including Walk MS Challenge Walk, and Bike MS (60% of time) § Work with Development coordinators to determine volunteer needs for events § Run reports of volunteer registrations using Convio § Manage communication to event volunteers including email blasts, assignments and event detail information § Create volunteer assignment spreadsheets § Write volunteer job descriptions § Assign volunteers to appropriate positions § Assist in training volunteers § Assist in recruiting HAMS, medics, and other specialized volunteers § Ensure risk management policies for event volunteers are followed § Manage volunteers at events , as assigned o Assist in facilitating formation of Community Leadership Councils § Cultivate volunteers, seeking and providing feedback and sharing opportunities for reciprocal growth and learning. We recognize the contributions of all volunteers. (Communication, Inspiring Others, People Management, Learning, Being Open and Receptive) o Assist in volunteer recognition o Cultivate relationships with new and returning volunteers o Serve as a resource and mentor to staff in expanding organizational capacity and relationship building 2. General (5% of time) • Develop a strong working knowledge of all chapter information systems, including Altair database, Convio and Business Objects. • Develop general knowledge of multiple sclerosis, MS research, and the programs, services, and advocacy efforts • Participate in training and development opportunities through the on-line Learning Management System • Maintain compliance with customer service, accessibility, and confidentiality guidelines • Attend functions to support and recruit clients and participants to volunteer for Chapter programs, services, and events 3. Perform other related duties as assigned Requirements: Three years related experience in an non-profit or social services environment. Excellent communication skills. Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, high-performing team environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds. Sensitivity to and understanding of issues related to chronic illness and disability. H igh level of proficiency in data management; experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher); familiarity and/or experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Convio, and Content Management System desirable Must have a valid driver’s license, a personal vehicle and proof of vehicle insurance. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. Knowledge and facility with computers and office software. The position requires a high level of proficiency in data management; experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) Familiarity and/or experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Convio, and Content Management System desirable.
