Competition members and student teachers at SPA, Kiana Homan and Alli Kate Aikens both traveled to Oklahoma recently for specialty dance classes. Kiana was awarded a scholarship at a national competition to The One Dance Intensive in Norman, Oklahoma, September 20-21. She was able to take classes from some of the best dancers in the industry: Caroline Lewis Jones, Barry Youngblood, Audrey Case (from top 10 of season 9 So You Think You Can Dance), and Matthew Kazmierezak (top 20 dancer from season 9 So You Think You Can Dance). Classes included Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Improv. Getting to not only take classes from Audrey Case, but getting to meet and talk with her was the highlight of Kianas weekend. Alli Kate returned to Oklahoma City University (OCU) September 19-21. She had previously attended OCU (one of the top 25 in the country) this summer for a 9 day dance intensive, Broadway Bound. This trip allowed her a full tour of campus, learning about all of gorgeous facilities and options, including costuming and digital light and sound that OCU has to offer, as well as watch the experienced, award-winning faculty of the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management. She again took classes from this fabulous faculty, including the incomparable Jo Rowan. Classes included jazz, tap, ballet, nutrition for the dancers health, and triple threat (dancing, singing and acting). Both ladies had a fantastic time and are anxious to share what they learned!
