Compliments from one of our parents - Ms. Xinhuan from MMI Jurong West Extension. Special words of thanks to you for your compliments and we wish you and your family an awesome 2015!!! My children, Melody and Colin So, attended MMI Jurong West Ext between 2010-2014 and thoroughly enjoyed their experience there. They skip to school in the morning and talk enthusiastically about their day in school when we pick them up. They were exposed to a variety of programmes like Passport Around the World, Kids Yoga, Speech and Drama, among many others, all of which incorporated into the daily time table so that parents do not have to plan extra enrichment for the children. School was not monotonous for them at all. We enjoyed the termly Speech and Drama presentations as a family. The children get to train up their courage to speak in front of an audience, and parents display their pride for their children openly. The setting is informal and lively, so both children and parents feel secure to enjoy the performance without stress of judgement. We also enjoyed the outdoor trips to River Safari, Tea Chapter etc. Not only did the children get exposed to new things, they learnt about discipline and behaving appropriately in public. Getting used to experiences as such gave them a good foundation to be confident and contributing members of the society. MMI Jurong West Ext also prepared my children academically. They are strong in their core subjects (i.e. languages, maths and science) and feel both confident and interested in learning more about the subjects. They are able to do their work independently, as well as work in a group to share things and take turns. Contrary to what others have told me about the nature of Montessori learning, which could be too soliditary in nature, my children interact very well with their classmates and children at the playground. They enjoy the company of others, yet are able to concentrate when they do work on their own. As a parent, I am very appreciative of all that MMI Jurong West Ext has done for my children. I see how much fun the staff members have together, and all the energy and joy rub off the children in producing a very lively atmosphere at school everyday. I can see how devoted the entire staff is towards their work, and it gives the parents much confidence that our children are well taken care of at school. I would like to commend Ms Madeline, Principal of Jurong West Ext and Ms Chandani, Senior teacher, specially. Ms Madeline is very assuring towards to the parents. She is also flexible in making arrangements for us in times of emergency. She is always seen with a smile and her “No problem!” attitude gives me both the confidence and willingness to work with her to give the best for my children at school. Ms Chandani has taught both my children and saw them grow from babies to self-directed children who are ready for Primary school. She is firm and loving towards the children. She instills discipline in class, allowing work to be done, yet have fun with the children such that they are comfortable with her and wants to share things with her. She sees the positive side of the child and never fail to share nice things about the child with the parent. Both Ms Chandani and Ms Madeline were quick to share with me how Colin overcame his fear at an obstacle course during the K2 camp and how proud they are of him. Melody is now the top pupil in her P2 class, getting first in position in P1, was a model student in P1 Term2, and the class monitor in P1 Sem 2. Colin is selected to be the Chinese representative in P1 and is very comfortable in school both academically and socially. I am very thankful for the crucial role the MMI teachers played in my children’s life during the preschool years. Just like when they run around the track at Jurong West Stadium, both staff and children of MMI Jurong West Ext are free to roam about in this school yet acquire the discipline to learn things properly. Once again, I would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to all past and present staff at MMI Jurong West Ext for all that they have done for my children. I am confident they will continue to enjoy their role as a preschool educator and bring out the best in all children under their care.
