Concerned Moalboalanon my opinion about the mangrove cutting incident ---- More than anything, I am insulted at ms. Geyrozaga’s response to her department’s handling of the mangrove deforestation in Moalboal.For starters, almost every man, woman and child had known weeks earlier that the mangroves are going to be cut. Then, inside a particular weekend, it actually happened. A concerned member of council brought it to the attention of the authorities to ascertain who or what department gave the go ahead.At this point in time, CENRO distanced themselves from the issue that they gave conflicting answers. Days after the councilperson’s inquiry, there was still no official statement from Geyrozaga or her department. Worse,they ignored the issue in the hopes that their silence would make the problem go away.This in turn emboldened the perpetrators to continue on with what they have started.Which leads us to the question: Why was CENRO even created.? What is the purpose of its existence? I struggle with the thought that it is just a bureaucratic sinkhole where the taxpayers are pouring their hard earned money into. CENRO can never justify their inaction by claiming ignorance of boundary specifics. Anymore than I can allow my neighbor’s house to burn down to the ground just because it’s outside my fence perimeter.If CENRO claims incompetence, I can live with it.But not ignorance.The least Geyrozaga could have done was promptly send persons of authority from her department to investigate . So now, what happened to the perpetrators? Absolutely nothing. I can hear them laughing all the way from the nearest karaoke restobar.The harm is already done.What’s CENRO gonna do now?
