Congratulations Miss Kenya Idah NGUMA. Miss World 2014 Beauty With a Purpose competition winner among four other winners from India, Brazil, Indonesia and Guyana. Miss World Kenya Promotes Smile Train for her “Beauty with a Purpose” Platform. Idah Nguma, 22-year-old college student and 2014 Miss World Kenya, decided to partner with Smile Train for her community project. Nguma said, “In some communities children born with (clefts) are disgraced, isolated, rejected, and in extreme cases killed. These children live in shame and have difficulty eating, breathing, and speaking. Many of them do not attend school because of the stigma associated with clefts.” Nguma set an ambitious goal saying that she would like every baby born in rural Kenya with a cleft treated for her “Beauty with a Purpose project”. She said, “With our Smile Train partnership we will help these communities access these surgeries free of charge. This initiative not only restores smiles but also reaches and transforms lives.” The Miss World organisation recently named Miss Nguma as a top ten finalist and her video was one of five videos chosen to play at the “Beauty with a Purpose” Charity Gala Dinner. After the event she said, “Looking back this is one project I have been very passionate about, I know the value and importance of a smile and nothing gives me a greater joy than putting one on somebodys face.”
