Congratulations to Meredith Fitzmaurice of Amherstburg, Ontario. She entered the Run For Heroes marathon, but only intended to run the half-marathon, about 13 miles. But when she reached the half-way point, she missed the turn. She must’ve been thinking it was an awfully long half-marathon, but she kept on running, following two men in front of her. She didn’t realize she’d run the whole thing until she hit the final stretch and everyone was cheering her because…she won. She was the first woman to cross the finish line, running 26 miles in just under 3 hours, 12 minutes – by accident. She’d never run more than 20 miles before, but that win qualified her for the Boston Marathon. And maybe she’ll win that, too… as long as nobody tells her how long it is.
