Here is a press release from the city: Bainbridge Island Nationally Recognized for Excellence in Community Engagement and Natural Environment Bainbridge Island, Wash., (September, 2014) – Earlier this week at the International City/County Management Association Conference, the City of Bainbridge Island was awarded the Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Community Engagement and Natural Environment. This award is based on responses from The National Citizen Survey™ (The NCS™), residents of Bainbridge Island report the highest levels of satisfaction with community engagement and natural environment compared with responses from all other jurisdictions participating in The NCS™. The NCS™ is a community assessment tool that reports resident opinions and satisfaction with local government and services based on a scientific and representative sample to inform budgeting, performance measurement and program planning. The Voice of the People Awards are presented by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) to recognize the highest quality from the perspectives of the residents themselves in the areas of community engagement, safety, mobility, foundations of livability, recreation and wellness, education and enrichment, natural environment, built environment, and economy. According to Bainbridge Island City Manager Doug Schulze, “It’s an honor to have Bainbridge Island recognized nationally for community engagement and our community’s commitment to the natural environment. This award would not have been possible without the thousands of dedicated Bainbridge Island residents that work tirelessly to give back to their community and to protect the natural beauty of the island.”
