Congressmen Greg Walden (R-OR) and Tom Price (R-GA) introduced the Securing Access Via Excellence (SAVE) Medicare Home Health Act, which is already gaining national media attention. As you may be aware, Medicare funding for home healthcare was slashed by a drastic 14 percent, or approximately $22 billion, beginning on January 1. This cut particularly affects Medicare’s most vulnerable demographic. Consider these facts: The average age for a home healthcare recipient is over 80 Two-thirds of home healthcare recipients live below the federal poverty level Most have chronic diseases like diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart disease The SAVE Medicare Home Health Act aims to repeal this arbitrary across-the-board spending cut and replace it with patient centered reforms that will improve care for beneficiaries and generate savings for the Medicare program.
