Could changing the diet of patients with #ALS improve their life - TopicsExpress

Could changing the diet of patients with #ALS improve their life expectancy? A recent clinical trial showed that patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who received a high-calorie, high-carbohydrate diet lived longer with fewer adverse effects than patients who received a standard diet designed to maintain their weight. “We are particularly excited because these results provide the first preliminary evidence that a dietary intervention may improve life expectancy in ALS,” says Dr. Anne-Marie Wills (pictured here). The study was conducted by researchers in the Department of Neurology, the Neurological Clinical Research Institute and the Clinical Research Center (CRC). Jane Hubbard, senior research nutritionist at the CRC, was second author on the study.
