Countdown to the Celebration kickoff - 3 days to go! The #3 reason we love the Maine Celtic Celebration - showing off Belfast! Our little city on Penobscot Bay has been somewhat of a hidden gem for years, and to some extent thats a good thing. Slow, steady growth and improvement in and around downtown has been manageable and has resulted in a wonderful mix of new businesses from the waterfront to the outskirts of town. Front Street Shipyard brought a working waterfront presence back to town in a BIG way, and has brought national attention and lots of big yachts to Belfast. After many years of little activity, the East Side has seen some investments recently resulting in upgraded motels, new housing, a mini golf course and now a bowling alley is open for business! All summer weve noticed the full parking lots and streetside spaces, and on occasion have had to sit through THREE light changes at High and Main Streets on the way home from work! (No, we are NOT really complaining about traffic here. Just making an observation) There are events year round in Belfast, from arts to music to professional meetings to athletic events like the Trek Across Maine, and even in the darkest days of winter you can find something unique going on somewhere in town. No one person, or event, or organization gets the credit for all of it, instead its all of us working together toward a common goal, to improve our City and our way of life in Belfast while trying to maintain the character of the place that drew us here in the first place. The Maine Celtic Celebration is proud to be a small part of what makes Belfast Belfast, and were proud to call Belfast home for our festival. We hope youll see lots of new faces from far away places in town this weekend, and that youll see the ripple effect in our local shops, eateries and motels. Thank you, Belfast, for hosting the 8th Annual Maine Celtic Celebration! We cant think of a better place to be!
