County Headquarters Laikipia county Assembly members have reaffirmed that the county headquarters will be based in Rumuruti town following a motion that they passed to relocate from Nanyuki. The members noted that they had come into agreement that Rumuruti was the best town which can develop to a big town since it has enough land. Led by Majority leader Mwangi Kamakia the members who were responding to calls by residents of the town during a ward visit as to why the movement was dragging they noted that with time plans will commence for relocation. Kamakia said that renovations that are being conducted at the Nanyuki chambers was minimal to enable members have a comfortable life before the actual building of a modern parliament in Rumuruti commences. “We had already borrowed the money to rehabilitate the Nanyuki House and we cannot shift the funds to building a new assembly in Rumuruti,” explained the Ngobit MCA The residents complained that a group of Nanyuki traders had gone to court to protest the move but the MCA urged them to be patients as everything would go to plan. Surprisingly members who were opposed to the move during the motion taken to parliament in April led by deputy speaker Peter Kimondo supported the move noting that there was no need to oppose the logic. Kimondo said that a county headquarter in Rumuruti will unite the whole county since it is the central place. He however said that plans must be made to compel the national government to construct the Nanyuki - Rumuruti road for easy access to the prospected Headquarter. “The members of the assembly will lobby for the construction of the link road with the ministry to make sure that people from Dol Dol in Laikipia North and Nanyuki in Laikipia East can make to Rumuruti easily,” Said the Deputy speaker Githiga Ward MCA Peter Thomi castigated some traders in Rumuruti who have been collecting money from residents noting that they want to file a case in court to compel the immediate movement of the headquarter to the town. Thomi noted that the decision by the assembly was enough and no one should go to court to force relocation. He said that millions of shillings are required to develop the town into a headquarter and people have to be patient “There is no way we can make a decision and move the same day, we have to plan how we will build our headquarter and that has to take a bit of time and no one should collect money from you for whatever reason,” he noted The calls were echoed by the speaker Patrick Mariru who urged the resident to respect every law passed by the assembly as it will always be final.
