Crimes committed by AR far exceeds those by groups: RPF July 19 2013:Recalling the July 17 Jiribam incident of confrontation between some personnel of the 22 Assam Rifles headed by one Major Kanti and personnel of the Jiribam poilice over the latter’s arrest of general secretary of United Tribal Liberation Army, UTLA, the proscribed Revolutionary Peoples’ Front, RPF said the incident has once again exposed the reason behind Government of India’s deployment of Assam Rifles in Manipur. The proscribed outfit also lauded what it termed “spirited and courageous” personnel of Jiribam police who confronted excessive action of Major Kanti and team and taught a befitting lesson to the Assam Rifles. The outfit also extended words of appreciation and honour to all the police team of Jiribam police station for arresting the extortionist who are in working in collusion with the Assam Rifles. A statement issued by RPF’s Secretary Publicity Roben Khuman said UTLA (Thadou) general secretary was arrested by Jiribam police personnel while the militant leader was coming to extort Rs 10,00000 in collusion with Assam Rifles. “Immediately after the arrest, Major Kanti of 22AR came to the rescue of the arrested militant at Jiribam police station and the AR officer even slapped additional SP to secure release of the UTLA general secretary and thus the confrontation ensued between the AR team and the Jiribam police personnel”, the RPF statement added. manipurtimes/news-article/the-peoples-chronicle-news/item/1606
