Criminal investigation into Soko’s death A senior police officer tasked to find out the circumstances surrounding the death of robbery suspect Vilikesa Soko will be required to conduct a criminal investigation. This has been announced by Police Commissioner Major General Ben Groenewald this afternoon. Groenewald says a senior superintendent from the Police Internal Affairs Division has been assigned to investigate the death. “If there is any concrete evidence against any person, in this investigation of any wrong doing I will not hesitate to either suspend interdict or terminate any person.” The commissioner also added that from their preliminary investigation and from the results of the post mortem a criminal investigation is warranted. The 30-year old father of three children died at the Lautoka Hospital on Wednesday night. Soko was arrested with three others last Friday in connection with a robbery at the City Forex Money Exchange in Nadi town earlier in the morning. Groenewald declined to comment any further on the matter saying it is sensitive however the investigation will be thorough. He adds he will not hesitate to appropriate disciplinary action if any police officer is found to have breached professional conduct. -
