Critical Resistance (CR), a national grassroots organization working to end the prison industrial complex (PIC), seeks a National Development Director to build and further diversify its fundraising and development capacity, ensure CR’s financial oversight and health, and strengthen the organization’s stability, growth, and vitality. This is an exciting moment for Critical Resistance. Even as imprisonment, policing, and surveillance continue to devastate people of color, poor people, immigrant and queer and gender queer communities, we continue to make gains. Our organizing has stalled prison and jail expansion across the United States. We have organized in coalition with allies inside and outside of prisons to end the practice of solitary confinement especially through the recent, historic hunger strikes and work stoppages in California. We also successfully challenged the use of gang injunctions as a repressive policing tool in Oakland, CA, through an organizing model that is now being replicated across the state. As we remain dedicated to abolishing the PIC, we are also dedicated to building the strength of our organization. To that end, we focus on building resources, financial and otherwise, that sustain both our infrastructure and organizing. Critical Resistance places a particular emphasis on grassroots fundraising as a way to more effectively link development and organizing and to create a more stable and sustainable movement.
