Tony Abbott was sworn in as Australia’s Prime Minister on Wednesday morning, promising to end immediately the previous Government’s carbon tax and other climate change measures. Abbott’s conservative coalition won the general election earlier this month with a solid majority in the lower house, but he will have to deal with a range of minor parties which will hold the balance in the Senate to get legislation through Parliament. 2. Former Toyota Motor Corp President and Chairman Eiji Toyoda, a key figure in firm’s rise to become one of the world’s biggest carmakers, passed away due to heart failure on Tuesday. He was 100. A member of Toyota’s founding family, Toyoda served as President of the company from 1967 to 1982. He promoted the “Toyota Way,” a manufacturing method enabling high production efficiency, helping the firm catch up with US car giants such as Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co. 3. Bank of England has increase UK’s economic growth projection for third quarter to 0.7% from earlier projection of 0.5%. It has also decided to keep interest rates and quantitative easing (QE) on hold this month. At the same time, UK inflation measured by the consumer prices index (CPI) dropped to 2.7% in August, from 2.8% in July.
