DAILY SHARING Hebrews 12. 1-13 12 Therefore we also , since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight , and the sin which so easily ensnares us , and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us , 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross , despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider, indeed , the one who supported himself against such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart . 4 You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as son : My son , do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved ; 6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he recognizes for his son . 7 If ye endure chastening is son as God deals with you , for what son is a father does not chasten ? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards , and not the son . 9 Moreover, since our human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them , do we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of our spirits, and live? 10 Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best , but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11 It is chastening seems at first a matter of sadness , not joy, but it occurs later for those who have been trained by the peaceable fruit of righteousness. 12 Wherefore drooping hands and your weak knees, 13 and follow with straight paths for your feet , lest that which is lame be turned out , but rather be healed . lower STAY IN THE RACE Eyes fixed on Jesus In many places, the Bible compares life in Christ to walk or , as here, in a race that requires the endurance1 . In the realm of faith , it seems that those who do not move back ! However , discouragement (3) sin (1 ) suffering (7 ) and many other things can help us to persevere in this race. That is why , instead of our gaze on the obstacles , the author of Hebrews exhorts us to keep fixed on Christ who opened the way ( 2). So, without further ado, let us ask the question: What do I need to leave to stay in the race, or what sin do I turn me to move forward ? That tough love If the example of the many witnesses of the faith chapter 11 helps us to persevere in this race , that of Christ is crucial , because it was he who won. In his humanity , he left us an example , and because we have become children of God by adoption , we are in favor of the love of the heavenly Father, who is not weak but responsible . It is clear that the correction of the Father is part of the teaching of God to enable us to stay on course (6-7) . How do we face hardships and oppositions of life? We allow ourselves to become discouraged and let God speak to us , we adjust if necessary (5 ), or pick ourselves up and strengthen us (12-13) ? For God to holiness ( 10). Thus, " Sanctification is not what I want God to do for me , but what God wants to do to me according to his thought. "( Oswald Chambers ) The race that is set before us is not without pitfalls, but is not it reassuring to know that Christ before us , and that no obstacle is beyond the sovereignty of God who loves us as a Father ? To meditate "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God , to them who are the called according to his plan " ( Rom 8:28) .
