DERRYNOOSE 1-16 FORKHILL 2-15 Forkhill completed their league programme on Wednesday evening last with a win over promotion challengers Derrynoose by 2-15 to 1-16. This was a pulsating ,hard-hitting and close encounter, well referreed by Barney Henry. On a beautiful bright summer evenin , Forkhill got off to a blistering start with a Ciaran Smith goal in the very first minute, after an excellent passing movement. Derrynoose responded and landed a couple of points. It was then that the village side moved up a gear and played some classy ,quick passing football. Points from Jemar Hall, Owen Donaghy, and Stephen Sheridan stretched the lead and this was added to when a long free kick from Owen Donaghy ended up in the back of the home sides net. At half time we were 2-8 to 0-7 ahead, after having played some of their best football of the season. Derrynoose came out in the second half determined to show their promotion credentials and began to take control of the game. A series of points saw them reduce the arrears as Forkhill lost the first- half sparkle. However, strong defending from Brendan Murchan, Paudie Toner and Miceal Burns helped steady the ship as forwards, Ciaran Smith, Owen Donaghy and Jemar Hall began to re-assert themselves. The introduction of Barry Shannon and the fielding of Mark Burns helped in the push for home as both sides traded point for point in a most exciting final ten minutes. While Derrynoose gamely cut the deficit to one point, they could not force the equaliser and Forkhill got the final score of the game with a Jemar Hall point. Final Score: Forkhill 2-15 to 1-16. While the game was won, the Derrynoose fight- back in the second half highlighted areas to work on as the season enters its final stretch. However, the team squad and management must be given great credit as they went through the entire league campaign with only one defeat.
