DHS: ASPIRING SCHOOL ON THE ROAD TO BECOMING A TECH-VOC SCHOOL - TopicsExpress

DHS: ASPIRING SCHOOL ON THE ROAD TO BECOMING A TECH-VOC SCHOOL (Throwback......saddened so bad) Since the inception of the Tech-Voc Task Force in the Department of Education under the helm of the then Secretary Jesli A. Lapus, Dapdap High School was recommended to adopt the Strengthened Technical-Vocational Education Program (STVEP). There was even a DepED Memo issued by that time were DHS name was added to be part of the practicing school on TECH-VOC Curriculum. Because of the limited time and scarce in both human and material resources, the project of conversion on the Tech-Voc program did not materialized. A group of Tech-Voc Task Force Team from the Regional Office had an initial ocular inspection and assessment on the readiness of the school to implement the program. Sad to note, the school unfortunately did not make it. The contemporaries then of DHS were Capas High School in Capas, BS Aquino High School in Concepcion and Lapaz High School in Lapaz. They were all given the status Tech-Voc Schools. Since then, outpouring tools and equipment were given to them including financial assistance. Soon after, the name of the school was not dropped from the list of recommended school to again adopt the said program. The school was added in the list of aspiring tech-voc schools in the region and even joined the bi-monthly Executive Committee Meeting in the CLAPVI, Inc. – (Central Luzon Association of Public Vocational Institution, Incorporated) by invitation. This is the association that governs the tech-voc schools in Region III. The said organization provides updates in the implementation of the Tech-Voc Curriculum as well as guides the novice school concerning the STVEP. With this as an impetus ground, the then Principal II Mdm. Amelia I. Cachero gave a push to the TLE Department of the school to at least try and embrace the Tech-Voc world. As an initial start, in the School Year 2012-2013, along with the heights of the pioneering implementation of the K-to-12 BEC, the school took the risk. That is, implement the K-to-12 BEC merged with STVEP to the Grade 7 Level Learners. That year was a very tough one for a starter. A neophyte in the Tech-Voc field with scarce number of teachers and meager material resources was really a stiff to overcome. Series of problems came one after the other. The trying and galloping times of Tech-Voc implementation had made the TLE teachers spearheaded by the Department Head –Mr. Ruperto G. Patangui, Jr. an attitude of never give-an-inch room of disappointments. Bolder step of converting some of the classrooms to shops was a hard decision to make. On that note, HE Room was fully used by students as laboratory for food preparation and food services under the custodianship of Mesdames Susana C. Descanzo and Lourdes Atienza-Garcia. An extension of Food Laboratory adjacent to HE Room is being manned by Mdm. Julie A. Alvero. The Cosmetoly Room housing improvised beds for massage class, numbers of footspa machines, nail art tools and equipment and other related gadgets was supervised by Mdm. Wendina B. Mallari. Garments room for tailoring and dressmaking class equipped with ten sewing machines was made available for use under the managerial of Mesdames Irene R. Pitlongay and Amy Rose C. Guillermo. On the other hand, the Drafting Room is supervised by Sir Ian Cesar J. Senido and Sir Jim D. Laranang. Blest with ICT resources, the school has three existing Computer Laboratories. Housed at the second floor of the administration building, one computer laboratory for ICT integration lesson is managed by Sir Jeorge G. Aguas, II as the school’s ICT Coordinator while the other laboratory on the same building used for PCHS class is manned by Mdm. Jocelyn C. Santos. The DCP-ICT Laboratory equipped with fifty(50)brand new computer units housed on a separate building is managed by Sir Ramil M. Sales. Teamwork was the keyword to spell it out all. At the start, only a few numbers of TLE/TVE teachers are NC2 holders. They could even be counted in five fingers. The same goes with the tools and equipment. With the rigid seminars and trainings on skills enhancement and assessment on the different area of specializations in TLE/TVE, majority of the teachers in the department were certified by the TESDA an NC2 on fields like Beauty Care, Nail Art, Commercial Cooking, PC Hardware Servicing and Installation, Horticulture, Garments and Front Office Service among others. The growing and counting numbers of NC2 among the teachers provided them a bravier heart and confidence on STVEP. From scrap, the department had purchased manual and electric sewing machines, baking tools and equipment, footspa machines and footspa utensils, various kitchen and baking tools, utensils and equipment, gas ranges, technical drawing tables and fully equipped with ICT facilities. Despite of financial constraints, all of these tools, utensils, facilities and equipment are the product of concerted efforts of the TLE/TVE teachers, Department Head, Principal and the support and donation from the school’s valued stakeholders and partners in education. With the conservative numbers of material resources made available in the school for a short span of time, the challenge is yet starting. In this account, the school has offered the following specializations for Grade 8 students/learners: Food and Food Service (Commercial Cooking- now Experimental Cookery), Cosmetology (Beauty Care & Nail Art) and ICT (PC Hardware Servicing and Installation). The second year of implementation of the STVEP for the S.Y 2013-2014 is now serving an acid test for Dapdap High School under the dynamic supervision of the newly installed principal in the person of Dr. Amparo M. Muňoz. At present, the TLE/TVE Department has 25(twenty five) able teaching staff. On its second year of operation and implementation of STVEP Curriculum merged with K-to-12 BEC, the sailing at times gets rough. But with sheer determination, things will get better. The unseen is yet to come. NC2 for incoming Grade 9 and Grade 10 students will surely be a perplexing scenario worth giving a wait. There is so much to prepare as the school is again chosen to pilot the Senior High School for S.Y. 2014-2015. (the UNSEEN is ACCEPTANCE no matter how painful it is, a friend told me that it takes courage to lose sight of the shore so that in the end you can see and discover new oceans)
